Mike Tomlin: 'You can't judge chemistry' this early

The offseason refrain discovered in Pittsburgh includes repeated overtures seeing an improved locker room encounter and the way the Steelers are gelling now that certain ex-teammates are all gone.

Coach Mike Tomlin, however, knows we won't truly know the condition of a group until it is deep in the fire.
"You can't judge chemistry or civilization until you are confronted with hardship," Tomlin said, through the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "At this period of the year all 32 teams are undefeated and unscored upon. There was some fantastic teaching and learning. The journey itself is the indicator of this, a number of the hardship the journey provides. Obviously, when you're in a training camp-like setting, and it is exceptionally emotionally and physically and mentally challenging, that is going to be the first real hardship this team sees"
Perhaps the Steelers locker room is a more peaceful place at the moment, but things could go backward if reductions bracket. Tomlin understands this. Observing Bell walk always and trading Brown came with danger. It may make the locker room better, but talent drains around the area can take their toll on almost any calm situation. Time will tell if the changes were worthwhile for Pittsburgh.
