CONOR MCGREGOR TWEETS THAT HE HAS RETIRED FROM MMA

Category : News - Wed 20/11/2019 - 09:36 EST

When most people were sleeping, former UFC featherweight and lightweight winner Conor McGregor put a tweet out saying that he's retired from MMA. Below is the full quotation from his tweet:
"Hey guys quick announcement, I have decided to retire from the game formally called"Mixed Martial Art" today. I wish all my colleagues that are old well going in contest. I join my previous partners on this particular venture, currently in retirement. Proper Pina Coladas on me fellas!"
At first glance, it is difficult to choose McGregor seriously. This isn't the first time. Another time he tweeted something similar after he had been filed by Nate Diaz at a shocker in UFC 196. Just a few months after tweeting he had been back at the cage, winning a vast majority decision over Diaz in UFC 202. So whenever McGregor tweets something about retiring from MMA, then you need to keep in mind he has pulled this stunt before.
At second glance, though, there might be something more to this. After all, McGregor does not need MMA. It's only a matter of whether or not he has that burning passion to step in the cage, as far as finances go, he's set for life. The Floyd Mayweather boxing superfight at 2017 made McGregor up of $100 million, which financial windfall help put him up for success using Suitable 12 whiskey. McGregor doesn't really truly"need" MMA anymore. However he's a competitor, and he probably does not wish to go out on a devastating entry loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov in UFC 229 in his final bout, and of course all the shenanigans that went along with it.
This could be a tactic by McGregor, if anything. It's smart for McGregor to capture the eye of MMA fans and press. He has not even fought in nearly a year and yet remains talked about over almost any other fighter. He is clearly a very wise guy. The UFC has had discussions with McGregor about returning at UFC 239 in a co-main event fight against Nate Diaz, but McGregor was adamant he wants to fight in the main event, and it appears that's at the crux of his own beef with UFC president Dana White and co.. This could all be McGregor posturing and trying to get the UFC to call his bluff, but it remains to be seen.
Without McGregor, the UFC will have to go ahead and book UFC 239 with no as a potential fight. The rumors are that the UFC would like to do Daniel Cormier against Brock Lesnar for the UFC heavyweight title in the main event, and there are lots of different alternatives for the card including Kamaru Usman vs. Colby Covington for the UFC welterweight title. Just as the fans need to see McGregor come back and fight someone like Diaz, as far as it seems like the promotion needs McGregor, they really don't, and the UFC's well-oiled machine will probably continue to move forwards with or without the Irish celebrity.
